Inviting in Fresh Energy into Your Home

Ever feel totally like the energy in your home is totally stuck? The kind of stuck that as soon as you walk in your door, no matter how good you’ve been feeling, you just hit a wall of bleh??

Yeah, me too. Sometimes it’s because you (or someone else in your home) has been sick. Sometimes it’s because there was a big fight or bad news. Whatever the reason, it’s such a drag to feel like you’re home is bringing you down.

Well, good news! I have a quick, simple fix that is all about your exterior doors.

After all, our doors are a way we choose what to keep out and what to welcome into our homes—both figuratively and literally. So why not draw on that figurative power, and draw in some fresh energy with these 3 quick steps?

And I promise these are quick! I know when you’re feeling bleh, or down, or yuck, or bummed, you don’t have the energy for some big ritual. But these 3 steps will take you about 10 minutes, and I PROMISE will help make you feel better!

3 quick steps for inviting in fresh energy to your home!

I would start with your front door, but I STRONGLY recommend you do this with every exterior door, especially the one you use primarily.

For these steps, you will need a broom, damp rag, and your favorite candle or incense.

  1. Set aside any interior and exterior door mat, and sweep your entire door—from the top of the door lintel, the jambs (trim), the door itself, and the sill/threshold. Sweep away dirt, spiderwebs, debris, including the interior floor and the exterior stoop where the doormat lives.

Also, think about what you are sweeping away symbolically.

  2. With a damp rag, wipe down everything and anything you need to, including the door handle, locks, the door itself.

Once everything is wiped fresh, put all the elements you have moved back in place (shake out your doormats before returning them).

  3. Now you that you have purged the old, stale energy, it’s time to invite in fresh, happier energy.

Think about what you are inviting into your home, energetically speaking. Are you inviting health and recovery from illness, peace and easiness after a fight, gratitude and happiness after bad news?

Light your favorite candle or incense, speak your intention, and leave the door open, even if only for a minute or two. This allows for whatever greater power you believe in to understand your intentions and requests, and allows for fresh energy to come into your home.

Again, you can do this whole thing as quickly as you need to in order to match your current energy. I’ve done my front and back door in as little as 10 minutes, and immediately felt a little better.

If the energy in your home is bringing you down, I sincerely hope this helps you feel lighter and fresher in your home—and in general!
